3 Reasons Why Your Business Needs More Than Instagram

From local photographer and business owner, Vanessa Renae

Instagram is an incredible tool for businesses big and small. There is no doubt about that! However, channelling your time and energy to just one platform can be a really risky thing to do. Used correctly, Instagram is the glue that holds everything together. But it is not everything on its own. A successful business that will stand the test of time needs to have many strong referral points. This way, if one source disappears or changes, you will still have a solid client base. Here are three of the best marketing tools you can
start incorporating into your business today!

Your domain and web presence is one of the most important things a business can have. Social media has come a long way and you can definitely use plenty of features to sell and educate your future clients, but you should always be pointing them towards your website.

We all know by now how quickly social media can change. Social media can change their entire platforms overnight without much warning and that can be detrimental to a business that relies on them heavily. Your website, on the other hand, is 100% owned by you! This is so powerful and you can do so much with that. You can customize your website to your brand colours and voice so that everyone who lands on it can experience
a little slice of your business and what you have to offer. You can structure it however you like best so that it’s easy to navigate and guides your users to the pages you want them on, like your store or contact form.

However, one of the most powerful tools of your website is your blog! If you have this feature but haven’t gotten around to using it, you need to start today. Even if you’re not getting a ton of traffic from the community you currently have, your blog will drive new traffic for you. SEO is your new favourite word, research it so you can understand why and how it works. One of my favourite SEO coaches is Valerie Clark who offers 1-1 coaching to get your website ranking for page 1! Learning new things can be challenging, so remember that you can always look for help from those who have been where you are now and can help you get there so much faster.

Typically, people rave about two types of businesses. The ones they had a terrible experience with, and the ones they had an incredible experience with.

Go the extra mile for every client. Include handwritten notes, be organized and ask for feedback so you can improve and have every client leave a raving fan! Phenomenal businesses aren’t made overnight. It takes years of feedback, brainstorming and trial and error to find what’s sustainable for you as the owner and unforgettable for your client. Think about all the things you love most about your favourite brands that you rave to your friends about. Brainstorm how you can incorporate similar ideas into your business.

Read business books, listen to podcasts, find a mentor. There are so many ways to learn
how to grow your business!

Email lists can be daunting. So is hustling day and night for your business! Email lists take some time to set up, but once that part is done, it’s 90% automation and you can reach people while you sleep! I use Flodesk for my email list and it’s so easy to customize your emails to your brand and make them beautiful and captivating! You can use THIS CODE to get 50% off your subscription. Pair that with a targeted Facebook ad and you have a list that grows right before your eyes full of people who want what you sell! The amazing thing about an email list is that you don’t have to hope they come across your post on Instagram or happen to do a google search that leads to your website. Once someone is on your list, you can send them updates, info and announcements right to their inbox! If you’re needing detailed guidance on how to start a thriving email list, Jenni Maroney or Jenna Kutcher are both gurus at email lists and I highly recommend either!

Running a business is so multi-faceted and strategy is key but the rewards are worth every second spent behind the scenes. I hope these tips help you to strengthen your marketing so you can build the business of your dreams!

1. Your website!
3. Email List
2. Word of Mouth
